Dancing across the pond

The month of February is always a challenging one since it is so short. This year, Dance Theatre packed in two regional competitive events, the first at Starbound, Providence on the 15th and the second at Revolution, Worcester on the 29th. Dancers worked extremely hard under the direction of Jennifer Vecchio getting ready to compete at these two events, but that was not the story of this month.

Right in the middle of these two competition weekends on Thursday, February 20th, we held a Master Class at our studio located on 30 Martin Street in Cumberland. This wasn't your ordinary Master Class however. With the help of Robbie Mulrey, DTRI was able to host a group of competition dancers from Ireland that dreamed of dancing with students in America. A total of thirteen dancers traveled across the pond to attend a USA competition and classes at multiple locations. These dancers were paired up with thirteen Dance Theatre students and were greeted with welcome bags full of items that are hard to come by in their home.

Kyle Ponte, Meghan McCaffrey, and PJ Terranova each taught a one hour class for the attendees. It was a magical night where dancers from all over the world came together to dance, learn and become friends. We were honored to have them and hope to be able to accept their invitation to participate in the Twilight Dance Competition in Ireland soon.

A special thank you to the director from Ireland, Liz Miller Shannon, for the opportunity to be a part of this international event and to all the dancers that are now part of the Dance Theatre family: Angie Kelly, Ciara Loughman, Gemma Lascar, Catherine Maddison, Grainne Odoherty, Ailbhe Haran, Abbey McArdle, Ciara McDonnell, Casey Tuohy, Mia Danaher, Evie Lenihan, Lia Moloney and Isabelle Moloney.

We look forward to continue dancing with you in Ireland soon!
